Last night IV II VI (4-2-6) performed at the first heat of YouthRock 2009 at the Sutherland Entertainment Centre. They were well supported by a large number of students from our school who attended. Whilst they just missed out on qualifying for the final, they did our school proud, performing their four original compositions with great skill. The band recieved some fantastic feedback from the judges at the event and we are certain they are destined for big things!
Remember, if you haven’t yet, you can still vote for the band in the WildCard competition. Visit http://www.arrivealive.com.au for details!
Well Done IV II VI – you were fantastic!

In term 3 the Parents & Citizens Association chose Krispy Kreme Fundraiser as its first fundraiser. Everyone in the school community was encouraged to order Krispy Kremes in order to raise money for a new SJBHS changeable sign. The new sign is needed as a form of communication between parents and the school. It can be used as reminder for special events which are held at the school on a regular bases. The Krispy Kreme Fundraiser raised $285 through the support of families and staff at the school.
The term 4 fundraiser is a combination UnderCover Wear and Tupperware Party. We are encouraging parents to come in and have a bit of fun while meeting other parents and raising money for the school. The party is on the 14th November 2008 at 9.30am in the Drama Room. Both consultants will be there until 1.30pm accepting orders.

As the yearly showcase of performing arts in NSW Public Schools, the Schools Spectacular involves 3000 of the most talented students in the state. The Guinness Book of Record calls it ‘The World’s Largest Variety Show’ and this year more than 30 students from Sir Joseph Banks High School are performing. We have 16 singers in the Massed Choir and 15 dancers in the Boys Hip-Hop Ensemble. Rehearsals at school have begun and all of the students are eagerly awaiting the huge combined rehearsals before the big show. This year the show is being held on Friday 28th and Saturday 29th of November at the Sydney Entertainment Centre and more than 30 000 people will see the performance live. The show will be filmed and then shown to almost 1.5 million people in December on the ABC. What a fantastic opportunity for our students!!!!!

The August edition of MAD Mag is at the printers. There’s a huge technology supplement, great stories and lots of MAD Challenge photos. There’s also a very special story about Aunty Margaret, a child of the stolen generations.
The magazine will be issued to students next week. Make sure you take a look!
